GameWith, Inc. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative and President: Takuya Imaizumi; Securities code: 6552) sponsored the Play at Home Cup 2020, an online gaming event featuring Fortnite, a hugely popular online battle royale game with over 350 million registered users worldwide. GameWith is an operator of a comprehensive set of services for online game players, including the flagship “GameWith” game media site providing game-playing tips and game guides.

This fun online event was organized as part of the initiatives to encourage people to “stay home” while playing games to avoid contracting COVID-19. From among over 2,000 entries sent from across Japan, 500 lucky players were chosen by lottery to compete in qualifiers. Then on Saturday, July 11, 95 qualified players were joined by a guest player Nephrite (pro gamer affiliated with GameWith), to play for the championship online.

Having won four games straight from the qualifying round, a 16-year-old male high school student, “Mazuuuuuuuuuui,” won the championship of the Play at Home Cup 2020. In addition to coupons worth JPY50,000, he got to play with iconic pro gamer, Nephrite, for an hour, even receiving gaming tips in the process.

Comments from the Champion

(After playing with Nephrite for an hour)

Besides being an outstanding player, Nephrite was exactly the person I’d come to know after watching countless videos. He put me at ease by speaking to me when I was completely starstruck! He answered my questions most courteously and told me what I need to do to improve my skills in the current environment. I will use what I have learned from him, and I hope to see him again and win the cup for two straight years!
